Google Voice Callback is out!

For a list of changes between versions, see here.
For a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ), see here
.

I hacked this together for my own use, but perhaps you might find it useful too.

Many thanks to Evan Charlton for the original GV app, which he stated that he is no longer maintaining.

My app does not have most of the functionality of GV which are replaced by the official Google Voice app; instead it does something that is missing from the official Google Voice app: callback.

For those of you using gizmo5+sipdroid, this will come in handy as the calls connected through callback does not have the 3 minutes limit. And for those of you taking advantage of MyFave (or equivalent), this can make sure that you are always talking to your your google voice number!

Several bugs/annoyances from the original GV app are fixed/changed:
* fix problem with gizmo5/sipdroid
* connects only when internet is available
* can ask for every call whether to use GV

Enjoy! Let me know if there are bugs (and the must be! The app is not well tested yet).

If you appreciate my work, consider donating!

GV Callback is working like a charm after some initial testing. Seamless approach and implementation. 5 star app!

Excellent one.. i used it many times since release on HTC MAgic android 1.6.. vodafone UK over wifi...

It some time hangs and a force close popup comes out..i kill the process and click the app again ..

it happens when i try to "save" settings.. OR

it happens when callback is connecting to Google voice..kinda a goes into some loop and hangs.. i just kill the process and start app again..and it works.

may be it will help u out on this alpha release...

GV Callback is fantastic. For some reason exclude rules dont offer a list of the numbers on Sprint Epic 4g, and therefore it seems I cannot create exclude/include rules. Is this specific to the phone?

I have a Question What Does GV Use to iniate the call to Have Google Voice call you back just curious as I have free incoming minutes and want to know if the call will be using my regular minutes or the Incoming Minutes.

Will there be a honeycomb version soon?

Love the app, but....

your application sees the data in the extension field and includes that with the phone number when it connects with Google.

When my android is called back, I hear an automated voice telling me that "...is not available for call return. goodbye"

Is there away not to include the extension data when you communicate with Google?

Thanks

How about ignoring certain numbers?
I was trying to dial a number to adjust a setting with my phone, which starts with a star.
However, * is a regex, so that wouldn't work to ignore in the pattern field. I tried \* but still, no go. whatsup?

AjayT: try using ** to escape the * character. I probably forgot to document this somewhere...

I've been using this great app with unlimited Sprint to Home. As some months have passed since GV/Sprint integration has been available, do you know if I port my existing GV number to Sprint, will this prevent its successful use it as a callback number?

An excellent app -- and I just reset my phone and can't re-install it :(

Why not just post the apk on your site for download... OR post it on Amazon's app store!!!

I just switched to a new phone and don't see your app on the GooglePlay. Yours is 10 better than anyone else's. Did they take it off because of the name? Is it still available?
